Past Events: New NorthWest Z Rogers Birhday Cruise to the Coast - May 15, 2010
by Gary Moisant
Celebrating Roger Wayland's Birth day and Armed Forces Day. Well, the first cruise of the year was a blast. We gathered at 9:30 in North Plains, then we were off. Twelve Z cars, one Datsun Roadster and one Datsun 5-10. We took Hwy 26 West towards the Coast, but turned North on Hwy 47 and headed to Vernonia. On the way we took a side trip, visiting Tubb State Park for a comfort break and pictures. Continuing on Hwy 47, we passed through Vernonia and continued on, turning West on Hwy 202. Heading now for Astoria. Hwy 202 is almost devoid of traffic and is a great drive in a Sports Car. It's beautiful this time of year, especially with it being a warm sunny day for May 15th. Along the way, we passed through Mist and the Elk Reserve. We made it a comfort stop and viewed about 70 Elk out in the pasture. Continuing on from Mist, we cruised on to Astoria and stopped at the Rogue Pub out on the river wharf for a great lunch and visit with our cruise buddies. After a leisurely meal, we headed toward home on Hwy 30, stopping at the City Park in St Helens on the river. Leaving St Helens and continuing on Hwy 30, we then turned up Rocky Point Rd. where we had a super, highly spirited run to the top! :-} Upon reaching the summit we turned east on Skyline Rd, then south on to Old Cornelius Pass Rd. until reaching the Rick Creek Tavern, our final destination. This place is a fine location to unwind and share the day. And a beer or two. LOL This was a great cruise with super people. Thanks to all who took part. For those that couldn't make come, we are sorry you missed a superb day. MYXTAZ
